Mass Timber in Architecture

Mass Timber in Architecture

Sponsored by

Nordic Structures

With Jim DeStefano, P.E., AIA, F.SEI and Alan Organschi. For architecturally exposed structures, nothing beats the look and feel of timber. Timber is not just a structural system, it is also an architectural feature. It is often the most practical, cost effective, and sustainable choice when architectural drama is needed and a more mundane structure just will not do.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Timber form follows function
  • Introduction to mass timber
  • Traditional and contemporary timber framing
  • Glulam construction
  • Cross Laminated Timber (CLT)

Jim DeStefano, P.E., AIA, F.SEI is the president of DeStefano & Chamberlain Inc. located in Fairfield. He is a structural engineer and a licensed architect with 40 years of experience designing timber structures.

Alan Organschi is the design principal and partner at Gray Organschi Architecture located in New Haven. Alan is also a member of the faculty at Yale School of Architecture.
