Jury comments: It is rare to see a glass box done so well. The pedestrian experience is thought through. This is a high level environmental design that nicely resolves a number of site challenges.

Jury comments: This community beacon has great integration of structure. The detailing is admirable with a contextual scale for the neighborhood.

Jury comments:  The jury appreciated the playfulness of the glass, the natural light and wayfinding within the interior space. There is a great story of the repurposing of the brownfield site and excellent adaptive reuse for it.

Jury comments: This clean and simple interface between the public and private is elegant and beautifully composed. The exterior’s integration with the landscape is juxtaposed with the white interior.

Jury comments: An interesting exploration of form and materiality. Articulating the stair connecting the multiple levels of the building brought a dynamic quality to what could have been a much more static gesture.

Jury comments: Whimsical and joyful, this project has very strong imagery: the jury admired its resilience and its work with glulam structure to connect with traditional shipbuilding imagery.

Jury comments:  The simplicity of the corridor is celebrated in this design, making the journey through the house as interesting as the rooms themselves. Framed views, playful colors on doors, and connections to nature make the space interesting at each turn.

Jury comments: A long-abandoned pier in a lively Baltimore harbor side neighborhood has been transformed into an elegant hotel.  Painstaking preservation and skillful modern design are hallmarks of this new urban anchor.

Jury comments:  This stunning, glorious restoration transports us back to 1875 and the glory days of this building and its neighborhood. Truly exceptional.

Jury comments: Respect for scale and proportions of adjacent 1830s terrace houses and skillful use of modern materials/systems create a light-filled LEED-NC Gold headquarters which enhances the neighborhood and is a delight to inhabit. The “bones’ of the original project are evident, while the renovation feels current and context-appropriate.

Jury comments: This is planning for resilience, climate change, the avoidance of future destruction, sensitive and simple. The simplicity of the move does not mask the complexity of the balance of detailing furnishing to complete the design.

Jury comments: The intervention is a new take on the undulating modern glass roof on historic structure, allowing occupants to inhabit multiple levels. Pedestrian experience from the street preserves the historic nature of the building. New spaces created under the roof look engaging and fun!

Jury comments: Nice re-imagining of an existing structure, and engaging the greater community by activating the corner and edges. Diagrams were easy to grasp and told the story of the design quickly.
