TUESDAY, APRIL 8 – AFTERNOON SESSIONS

Course Description – 1 HSW: This program will cover mineral silicate paints and stains, how they function and what makes them inherently different than latex or acrylic paints. We will explore the durability of mineral paints and when and where to specify them for maximum performance in the building envelope, and specifically what makes these finishes ideal in historic restoration.

Presenter: Keith Faxon
Company: Keim Mineral Coatings

Course Description –1 HSW: This is an introduction to the Prefabrication industry, and specifically how pre-fabricated Cold Form Steel panels and trusses on a project can help to improve the contract schedule, budget, and quality, assist A/E’s with project design, all while being environmentally conscious and using a sustainable system as compared to wood frame projects.

Presenter: Jeff Drogosek, Melissa Sheffy and Diane Kozel
Company: Network Framing Solutions

Course Description –1 HSW: Commercial and light industrial projects typically require high-performance coating solutions to provide optimal performance against abrasion, chemicals, moisture and other harsh conditions common to these types of buildings. Technological advancements have created high-performance coatings that provide the aesthetics and durability building owners demand, and include a variety of formulations that can help contribute towards green building certifications.
This session provides solutions to the most prevalent challenges found in busy commercial spaces as well as explores innovative coating technologies that combine performance benefits that meet the demands of commercial spaces while emitting lower VOCs.

Presenter: Stuart Millstein
Company: Sherwin-Williams

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 9 – MORNING SESSIONS

Course Description –1 HSW: This program explores the critical intersection of historic preservation and modern energy performance in window restoration and replacement.  Beginning with a comprehensive overview of window and glass evolution, it will provide context for preservation decisions. Topics include energy-efficient restoration techniques, sustainable materials selection, thermal performance improvements, and the integration of modern glazing technologies that respect historic character. Emphasis is placed on achieving occupant wellness through enhanced daylighting, thermal comfort, and indoor air quality while moving toward net-zero building goals.

Presenter: Brian Cooper
Company: The Cooper Group

Course Description -1 HSW: Need help designing and specifying wood specialty ceiling systems that meet both design intent and installation, code, and schedule requirements? Join us to learn how wood can be used for today’s popular ceiling design trends in standard, custom, premium, and one-of-a-kind systems to create high-performance, constructible, inspiring spaces.

Presenter: James Anderson
Company: Armstrong Ceilings

Course Description -1 HSW: Premature failures in the building envelope can result from the incorrect installation of fenestration products. The program will primarily concentrate on the best new practices recommended by AAMA to mitigate such risks and  an understanding of the significance of integrating a weather-resistant barrier during installation and how the various
installation materials collaborate to establish a weather-tight opening.  An overview of non-flanged window installation specifically for retrofit applications is also discussed.

Presenter: Greg Chase
Company: Weather Shield Windows & Doors

THURSDAY, APRIL 10 – AFTERNOON SESSIONS

Course Description -1 HSW: Modern design trends are favoring larger openings, and while this blank canvas offers the architect a wide-range of options, it can also pose a challenge. Because of the almost unlimited variations of different types, styles, and available options for large doors, it is often more important that the architect understands how to make the selection process, rather than which specific door to choose. The process for specifying should include client aesthetic expectations, environmental conditions, building performance, and durability concerns.

Presenter: Todd Geil
Company: Andersen Windows & Doors

Course Description -1 HSW: With the wide range of water-resistive barrier options available and the ever-evolving building codes, choosing the best solution for your project can be challenging. This course will help you navigate these choices by identifying best practices and introducing you to the accessories that optimize performance across various barrier systems.

Presenter: Scott Zubrow
Company: Benjamin Obdyke

Course Description -1 HSW: Wood is an ideal material for many building products, especially windows and doors. This presentation will discuss why wood is a top material choice, review numerous wood species, and provide side by side comparisons.

Presenter: Peter Neuffer
Company: LePage Millwork (Rockman Windows and Doors affiliated)

FRIDAY, APRIL 11 – MORNING SESSIONS

Course Description -1 HSW: Powder coating is a dry finishing process known for durability, performance, and a smooth application process on many products from everyday appliances to tough machinery. We will take an in-depth look at powder coatings while outlining the history of their development. It also illustrates the powder-coating application process, the differences between powder and liquid finishes, and other powder-coating specifications. It concludes with the features and benefits of powder coatings while emphasizing the advantages to health and the environment as VOC-free. The benefits of using nontoxic exterior powder coatings with unlimited color options over liquid coatings are also included.

Presenter: Dave Wheeler
Company: Sierra Pacific

Course Description -1 HSW: This course investigates the most recent code changes emphasizing
building envelope performance. We will explore next generation integrated solutions that simultaneously provide protection against moisture penetration, air leakage, and thermal bridging. Installation benefits and on-site quality control issues related to multi-solution integrated systems will also be evaluated.

Presenter: Will Contento and Matt McCammitt
Company: Huber Engineered Woods

Course Description -1 HSW: The session provides an overview of two directly related aspects of energy performance in the context of windows and doors: (1) the codes, standards and testing that establish requirements; and (2) the options for glass and window frames that directly determine performance.
