The AIA requires members to complete 18 annual continuing education hours (CE).
Of these, at least 12 hours must qualify as Health, Safety, and Welfare (HSW).

To remain a member in good standing, you must complete 18 Learning Units (LUs) per year. Of these, 12 must be HSW (Health, Safety and Welfare).
In addition to all other requirements for license renewal, an architect shall complete a minimum of twelve (12) CE from May 1 to April 30 each year or be exempt from these CE requirements as provided in the exemption section. Failure to comply with these requirements may result in an enforcement action pursuant to section 20-294 of the Connecticut General Statutes.
Twelve (12) CE shall be completed in HS. Excess CE may not be credited to a future calendar year. CE shall be certified by the American Institute of Architects (AIA), NCARB or the Connecticut Office of Data and Education Management (ODEM).
An architect shall maintain a record of his or her CE for six (6) years from the date the CE was earned. Upon request by the board or department, an architect shall be required to submit evidence to the board or department that the architect has completed the required CE. An architect’s CE may be audited by the board or department to verify compliance with the requirements of this section. If the board or department finds, after proper notice and hearing, that the architect failed to comply with these requirements or falsified documentation of required CE the architect may be subject to enforcement action pursuant to section 20-294 of the Connecticut General Statutes.
For reason of health, military service, or other individual hardship, the board may, in its discretion, excuse an architect from CE requirements if the architect otherwise meets all other renewal requirements. If the board makes an exemption, the board’s written decision shall be final and not appealable to the department. An architect who has been granted emeritus status by the board or department shall not be subject to CE requirements.
Members can sign in to the AIA CE System by logging into AIA to check their online transcript. Log-in is based on your primary email address and a personal password. If you have forgotten your password, use the “Forgot my password” link to be sent a new one to log in. It’s a good idea to check this transcript periodically (every quarter or every six months) to stay on top of your requirements and make sure course providers have been accurately reporting your credits
First, please allow two to four weeks from the date of a course before expecting it to appear on your online transcript.
If the course is still missing from your transcript, please get in touch with the course provider or organizer. If the AIACt was the provider, send us an email. Be sure to provide your name, the name, date, and time of the program, and the number of credits.

There is a character requirement for the ‘description of activity’ and the ‘learning statement’. Your self-report will not be successfully submitted until you are within the character requirement.
Once submitted, each self-report will be reviewed within 10 business days. If approved, the activity will be added onto your AIA transcript
